The place

People were brewing here long before us. It just took a century of wine to come back to it.

The building was born a brewery in the 15the siècle. La guerre l'a rasé en 1914, on l'a relevé en 1923 — sauf qu'en 1923, dans le coin, on buvait du vin. Il est donc devenu marchand de vin, et l'est resté près de cent ans.

In 2020, Sébastien put a brewing vessel back where there had always been one. Nobody calls him Sébastien: he's Babass, a village boy, and that is not up for discussion.

The brewery is at the back of the room. You'll see the batch in progress, and sometimes someone stirring something with great concentration. That's Babass. Don't disturb him between 2 and 4 pm.

  1. XVe

A brewery moves into the building. Its first life, and the longest one.

  2. 1914

The war passes through Donchery. Nothing of the building is left.

  3. 1923

Rebuilt — but people drink wine now. It reopens as a wine merchant.

  4. 2020

Babass fires up the vessels in the exact spot where they once stood. Beer returns, five centuries on.

  5. Today

Brewery, bar, drinks, a barbecue yard and an ambulance with nothing medical left about it.

Le bar itinérant

L'Amblance is on its way.
Nothing serious: it's bringing the beer.

A former ambulance, taps in the back, a counter that folds out of the side. It travels to village fêtes, festivals, clubs and private events, within about sixty kilometres of Donchery.

Oui, il manque le U. C'est fait exprès. Celui qui a floqué le véhicule avait vu le film, et personne ici n'a eu le courage de le reprendre.

This vehicle is a decorated mobile bar. It provides no medical or emergency service whatsoever.

Private hire

Hiring L'Entre Deux is entirely possible. Keeping the evening sensible, rather less so.

Birthdays, team dinners, clubs, gigs, weddings that refuse to end.

Sticker: Babass in a green hat, a beer in one hand and the mash paddle in the other, with the slogan

Can't make it, I'm at L'Entre Deux

The official sticker. For your helmet, your glovebox, your fridge or your work laptop — so you never have to explain yourself on a Friday night again.
